2009 MTV VMA’s Best and Worst Dressed

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Once the red carpet rolled out, Sunday night at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, there were more than bright lights, big ego’s and pre-Halloween costume’s (e.i. Lady Gaga) to be seen.

This year’s candidate’s either had you thinking “she’s looks fierce” or “what in the world was she thinking”.  It didn’t matter what your reactions were, there seemed to be a million other people reacting the same way.  Personally, I adored Beyonce and Keri Hilson’s deep V dress and pants suit.  The low cut tops or dresses are so in this season.  Make sure you cop  a replica for your holiday party wardrobe.  There were a couple of ladies with mini dresses, sequined, sexy chiffon’s or silk materials that were totally pleasing to the eye.  And of course dapper Diddy is always on the Best Dressed list for guys.

Check out more of the night’s best and worst dressed below where, I gave them all either two thumbs up for style and effort, or two thumbs down for overall appearance and fashion judgement.

Fashion Icon: At 61, Model Naomi Sims dies

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Modeling was her destiny, fame was her bookmark, and affliction was her way out.  Model, Naomi Sims was born to a very strict Catholic family in Oxford, Mississippi, on March 30, 1948.  Growing up in the late fifties Sims had two challenges she had to overcome.  The first being African American, and the second was being utterly tall.

Once Sims, realized fashion was what she wanted to pursue, she enrolled in the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.  In the late 60’s and 70’s, she become one of the first African-American models to walk in major fashion shows, you could see her face in numerous magazines spreads, and could recognize her face countless fashion magazines.  She was the first African-American model to grace the cover of Ladies Home Journal, Time, Cosmopolitan, McCall’s, Life, and many others.

After her successful modeling career she began her own line of wigs.  Her collection was for the textured, and relaxed black womans’ hair.
