Fashion Houston Day Two: What You Missed
Young designer Rubin Singer took the second day of Fashion Houston to another level last night with his African jungle inspired collection.
Singer instantaneously captured the eyes of the antsy crowd once the thin strapped black bralet accompanied with a black and white paint brushed asymmetrical skirt appeared on the runway. The thematic visuals flashing on the screens behind the runway introduced the audience into the lens of the collection. Glimpses of lion and gorilla heads, the sound of leaves blowing in the air and the chilling beat of the drum gave life to the entire show.
Jungle green satin dresses appeared vibrantly, while other designs appeared shockingly, like the black fish net body hugging gown the audience drooled over. No wonder why Singer has dressed stars like Beyonce. His pieces are confident and magical, two qualities women naturally possess.
Wednesday night was not only for the established designers, but student designers from the Art Institute of Houston showcased their designs as well. And compared to other well known designers from the night their careers look very promising.
With student designer 228 by L. Yates keen for structural design, INCLAN’s eye for sporty and trendy pieces and DAL’s love for everything feminine you can bet that these are a couple of up and coming Houston designers to watch.
Both designers Rene Ruiz and Naeem Khan dazzled the audience with their bronze and taupe glistening evening gowns.
The fun didn’t stop at the Wortham Theater Center once the shows were over. Tuesday night’s epic performance from hip hop artist Jadakiss at Hughes Hangar left the party goers ready for more. Fashion Houston After Hours line up includes Wednesday night at South Beach with model Will Jardell, Thursday night fun with The Floozies at Prohibition and just wait on Friday’s liberation to end fashion week with a bang.
